PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL – Miss USA 2014, Nia Sanchez, will attend the final day of The Honda Classic March 1 as a brand ambassador for Image Skincare, the Official Skincare of The Honda Classic.
During the event, Miss USA will distribute Image Skincare product samples, speak with members of the media, offer autographs and photo opportunities, and receive a putting lesson from PGA Professionals.
As part of their Honda Classic sponsorship, Image Skincare will distribute over 100,000 samples of their premium sun protection collection, Prevention+, to spectators during the four-day event. The brand will also provide skincare and sun protection to the golf professionals as they compete for the prestigious Honda Classic title.
“Our main goal is to raise awareness for skin cancer prevention,” said Janna Ronert, Founder and CEO of Image Skincare. “We’re very proud to partner with The Honda Classic and hope to maintain this relationship for many years to come.”
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, professional golfers receive on average an estimated 217 times the amount of ultraviolet (UV) radiation needed to cause a sunburn over the course of a year. Recreational golfers are at risk too, since every hour they can receive 3.5 to 5.4 times the amount of UV radiation exposure needed to cause a sunburn.
There is no shortage of professional golfers who have been diagnosed with skin cancer. Athletes such as Fred “Butch” Baird, Andy North, JC Snead and 2011 Honda Classic champion Rory Sabbatini have all been diagnosed with the potentially deadly disease.
“The risk of melanoma is high for golfers who spend hours out on the golf course unprotected, especially for men age 50 and older,” said European Board Certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and President of Image Skincare, Marc Ronert, M.D., Ph.D. “Wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen like our Prevention+ is key in reducing the risk of melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer.”The 2015 Honda Classic will be played February 23-March 1, 2015 with Russell Henley defending his title. The Honda awarded a record $2.55 million in charitable contributions in 2014, the eighth straight year the event has increased its charitable distribution to South Florida Children's Charities. The tournament also attracted 193,052 confirmed spectators between Tuesday’s practice round and Sunday’s dramatic finish that saw Henley prevail in a four-man playoff over Rory McIlroy, Ryan Palmer and Russell Knox.
