The Honda Classic Is Moving on Up With Double Decker Structure At The Bear Trap and New Public Activations
Long known as a fan friendly event with one of the greatest spectator experiences in the game of tournament golf, The Honda Classic is literally reaching higher in 2022.
The tournament is back to a full build-out after a re-imagined year in 2021 due to Covid-19. And that means looking for ways to creatively expand its most popular spectator viewing spots as well as create new ones.
That ingenuity will be on display in the form of a Double Decker Goslings Bear Trap for the first time. The traditional lower deck will feature multiple food and beverage locations and vantage points to watch the action on the 16th green and 17th hole. The new upper deck will feature a private hospitality area called Bear Trap Reserve, expanded from 2020.
“The transition to multi-deck seating and hospitality is a natural progression for us as we continue to seek meaningful opportunities to expand,” Tournament Director Andrew George said. “Our build-out always features a variety of activations for our patrons, and 2022 will be no different with nearly two dozen structures spanning 11 different holes being offered.
“We put a premium on creatively growing the fan experience while also managing the large crowds that frequent our venues around the course. We will continue our focus on raising the bar for those who attend the event.”
The square footage at The Goslings Bear Trap main structure is now 52,000 sq. for both levels. The bottom level has more than 40,000 square feet of space with views of the play on the 16th green and 17th hole. The upper level, Bear Trap Reserve, includes private suites with reserved viewing locations and upgraded food and beverage service for purchase.
Goslings Bear Trap tickets are $150 daily.
Most structures around the golf course are back to 2020 levels, but several new areas have been added.
The Duffy’s Zone @ 8 is a new public spectator spot where spectators can watch the approach shots over the water at the par 4. The zone includes bleacher seating and a food concession with outdoor picnic tables.
At the 10th green, there are the new Wine Deck on 10 and Cincoro on 10 spectator venues.
The 16th fairway features the Garrison Brothers Distillery Bunker where fans can enjoy unique food with a distinct Texas feel and beverages to match.
And at the 18th tee, the new Honda Deck provides a public venue with front row tiered seating to watch the player tee shots as well as a glimpse into Honda products.
In all, there are more than 350,000 square-feet of public and private structures.
The Honda Classic was named the Most Fan First event of 2019 by the PGA TOUR largely because of the scope of the annual build-out. After the tournament, it will take more than a month to disassemble all of the structures.
“It’s all about creating the finest fan experience that we can,” Honda Classic Executive Director Kenneth R. Kennerly said. “Each year we challenge ourselves to make this event better and we have been fortunate that we continue to gain support from the local community. It’s more than just a golf tournament now. The Honda Classic is a fixture in the community that people look forward to every single year.”
